Muller: Heynckes has become extremely greedy

Thomas Muller reckons Jupp Heynckes has become “extremely greedy” due to his insistence on succeeding in the Bayern Munich hotseat.

The Bavarians finished runners-up in the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and the Champions League last season, finishing second to Chelsea in Europe and Borussia Dortmund on both domestic fronts.

However, the Germany international believes their failures of the previous campaign have made the coach more determined than ever to ensure a repeat performance is not demonstrated this time around.

“It is not common to see a 67-year-old coach still work with such passion,” the forward told Spox. “The two final defeats [in the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League] have made him extremely greedy.

“He wants to do it again, but on a positive note this time. It’s fun to watch him [in training].

“The team is stable and so well-built because no coach has come in and tried to force something completely new upon us. Nothing has needed to be reinvented.”

Muller was then quizzed on the necessary skills needed for a coach to take control of Bayern and cited man-management and mutual respect as the two most important traits.

“He must be able to work well with the players, which is extremely important trait to coach a top team. He must also give everyone their say and cause arguments,” he added.

“It should be viewed as an honour for any coach to coach Bayern.”
