Ribery ready to return for Bayern Munich

The French winger has been sidelined with a thigh problem since the resumption of the Bundesliga but returned to training on Monday

Bayern Munich have been boosted by the news that Franck Ribery is confident of being fit for this weekend’s Bundesliga clash with Hamburg.

The French winger has not featured for the Bavarians so far this year because of a thigh problem but returned to training on Monday and is optimstic about his chances of featuring at the Allianz Arena.

“We’ll see how the muscle reacts to stress now,” Ribery told reporters. “But I hope to play against Hamburg on Saturday.”

Rafinha also rejoined the group on Monday after missing the German champions’ first three games back after the winter break with ankle ligament damage.

Bayern boss Pep Guardiola will be delighted to have the pair available for selection again, with Bayern set to travel to Ukraine on February 17 for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Bavarians made a poor start to the second half of their Bundesliga campaign, losing to second-placed Wolfsburg before drawing at home to Schalke, but they returned to winning ways at Stuttgart at the weekend to maintain their eight-point lead at the top of the table.
