Picking the Best Potential Bayern Munich Lineup to Face Augsburg on Saturday

Bayern Munich host local rivals FC Augsburg on Saturday as they look to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Manuel Baum’s side can move closer to the European places if they cause an upset this weekend, with the Fuggerstädter currently sat in mid-table.

Here’s who Jupp Heynckes could select for the Bavarian derby.

  • Ulreich

?With Manuel Neuer still out injured, and not expected to make a return until March, Sven Ulreich will retain his place in goal.

  • Kimmich

  • Süle

  • Hummels

  • Alaba

Arguably Bayern’s strongest back four, Niklas Süle should retain his place in the starting lineup. The former TSG Hoffenheim centre-back performed will in Der Klassiker before the international break and his strong performances for Joachim Löw’s side should keep him in the side ahead of Jérôme Boateng.

Joshua Kimmich, Mats Hummels and David Alaba will also retain their starting spot at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Despite Franck Ribéry missing through injury, Bayern still have one of the strongest group of midfielders in the league. Arturo Vidal and Thiago should start deeper for the hosts, while James Rodriguez can occupy his favoured No. 10 position.

Arjen Robben, who scored against Borussia Dortmund two weeks ago, will offer Bayern width to stretch Augsburg’s side along with Kingsley Coman.

  • Lewandowski

?There are few teams in world football that hate the sight of Robert Lewandowski more than FC Augsburg. The Polish striker has faced the Fuggerstädter on 12 occasions during his Bundesliga career, scoring two hat-tricks and three braces within his 16 goals during his time at Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern Munich Defender Joshua Kimmich Reveals His Idols Growing Up in New Documentary

?Bayern Munich defender Joshua Kimmich has revealed the three players he idolised growing up, in a new documentary which looks at his early playing years and those that influenced his career.

The 22-year-old joined the Bundesliga giants in 2015 from Stuttgart and has already won five titles with the Bavarian giants, who sit four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table again this season.

While the Germany international right-back is already destined for greatness, he has revealed in a ? documentary the people that have had the most influence on his career as well as the players he idolises.

He said: “Xavi Hernandez and Bastian Schweinsteiger. However, my first jersey I had from the then Dortmunder Tomas Rosicky. But I also found Krassimir Balakov impressive.”

The defender was shadowed for almost two years by journalist Jan Mendelin, who recorded elements of his personal life and events in football capturing the components which have lead to his success, but Kimmich said that he found the whole process exciting.

He added: “I found the idea exciting. At that time I did not realise how big, how long and how multifaceted that would be. I thought in the beginning, videos could be a nice memory later.”

Kimmich also revealed that his father played a massive part in helping to develop his game as a young player which he has continued to do throughout his career.

He said: “We have a great line. I owe him so much. If he did not say anything after a game, I knew it was not a good game for me. If I do not use a good chance today, I hear from him.”

Hoffenheim Star ‘Requests’ Bayern Move as Nagelsmann Confirms German Giants’ Interest

?Sandro Wagner could be in line for a January transfer to Bayern Munich after the Hoffenheim star “requested” to leave his current club.

The striker has been earmarked as Bayern’s first choice option to provide back-up for key goalscorer Robert Lewandowski, and German publication ?Bild suggests a move to Bavaria could happen in less than two months’ time.

Wagner was spotted in Munich as he took in a basketball game between Bayern Munich’s basketball team and Galatasaray at the Audi Dome, and sat within metres of Die Bayern’s first-team stars Javi Martinez and Joshua Kimmich.

That has done little to play down growing reports that the 29-year-old is on the cusp of joining the reigning Bundesliga champions in the winter window, and would represent Wagner’s career coming full circle after he came through Bayern’s youth academy 12 years ago.

The forward’s wife and two children reside in the Munich district of Unterhaching, and recently stated that “it sucks” that he has to spend time away from his family when he trains and plays for Hoffenheim.

And Hoffenheim manager Julian Nagelsmann has also commented on the speculation as he admitted that Bayern are interested in signing their former youth product.

Wagner has only been part of Hoffenheim’s senior set up since July 2016 when he completed a £2.5m from Darmstadt, but his 18 goals in 48 matches has alerted Bayern to his decent strike record for Die Kraichgauer.

Wagner did turn out on eight occasions for Bayern’s first team after he made his senior bow as a late substitute in the 3-0 win over Hansa Rostock in November 2007.

However, he left on a free to join Duisburg in July 2008 and has since done the rounds at German top flight sides Werder Bremen, Kaiserslauten, Hertha BSC and Darmstadt before moving to Hoffenheim.

Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes remained coy on reports alleging that he would look to bring Wagner in when the window opens in seven weeks’ time, but it would not be a drawn out process to bring Wagner home given that he has already requested to rejoin his former side.

Bayern Look to Arsenal Forward After Lewandowski Requests New Signings

Bayern Munich have reportedly turned their attention to signing Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud as back-up to Robert Lewandowski – who has called for the club to sign another striker in order to relieve the strain placed on the Polish goalscorer.

The Bavarian side’s only other striking option comes in the form of Thomas Muller, and at 29-years-old, Lewandowski is realising that he can’t continually churn out game after game.

In order to preserve his long-term future, Lewandoswki has recommended signing a younger attacker to help, and claims that a few less minutes would benefit him in the long run:

?“It would definitely be an option to sign a hungry, young striker who wants to learn from an experienced player,” Lewandowski told German outlet SportBild.

“It would be a relief for me to play 15 or 20 minutes less in a game, then you have more energy for the next games and a higher probability of staying fit and minimising the risk of injuries.”

Despite this recommendation, Bayern are more interested in signing out-of-favour Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud; that is, according to reports in Germany (H/T the Daily Star).

Since the arrival of £53m signing Alexandre Lacazette, Giroud has found himself dropping down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium. Bayern were keen on signing the Frenchman before his switch to north London and could head back in for the 31-year-old.

On the other hand, Ajax forward Kasper Dolberg is also being linked with the German champions.

The 20-year-old would definitely fit the bill for Lewandowski’s ‘young and hungry’ recommendation, and his performances in the Eridivisie have apparently done enough to warrant the interest of Munich.

VIDEO: Xabi Alonso Takes First Steps Into Management With Adidas Tango Squad

Former footballing wizard Xabi Alonso has taken his first steps into management after guiding Adidas’ Tango Squad FC in their first match as a team; and of course, the former Liverpool legend took influence from his Champions League final experience as a means of motivating his players.

One of football’s greats, Xabi Alonso has won almost everything he could at club level, having experienced huge success at Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Naturally, most assume that the technical genius will one day step into a manager’s role, and it seems he may already have his foot through the door.

Taking control of Adidas’ Tango Squad for their first ever match, Alonso used the 2005 Champions League final as inspiration for his players:

“OK lads, today you are playing your first competitive match against Sant Ana,” says Alonso.

“Whatever happens, don’t give up. When I played Champions League final, we were 3-0 down at half time.

Liverpool's Spanish midfielder Xavi Alon

“Everything looked lost but we kept believing, we kept fighting, so whatever happens, keep going guys.”

Unfortunately, a manager is only as good as his team – and Alonso slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sant Ana. Funnily enough, Tango Squad found themselves 3-0 down at half time, but didn’t quite have it in them to re-enact that night in Istanbul.

A much improved second half wasn’t enough from the boys, although they did play much better.

With the three goal deficit, they managed to claw one back and concede no more; but their numerous efforts that hit the woodwork ended up coming back to haunt them.
