UEFA declines Bayern’s unofficial request

Posted by brcic on May 3, 2012

After collecting third yellow cards of the competition in Bayern’s Champions League return away to Real Madrid, Holger Badstuber, Luiz Gustavo and David Alaba are compulsorily suspended for the final at the Allianz Arena on 19 May, when FCB play Chelsea. Acting in the interests of the players, FC Bayern directors and officials have attempted to have the bans rescinded, lodging an unofficial enquiry with UEFA with the aim of checking the governing body’s readiness to lift the suspensions on the Bayern trio, and similarly afflicted Chelsea players Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires and Raul Meireiles.

Unfortunately, the result of the unofficial enquiry has proved negative, as UEFA has stated that there is no chance of a successful appeal. The fact of both finalists losing players to suspension has frequently happened in the past, the European governing body said. In fact, there have been previous formal requests launched jointly by both finalists to rescind yellow cards, for example in 2009 by Barcelona and Manchester United on behalf of suspended players Wes Brown (United) and Eric Abidal (Barcelona). This appeal was also unsuccessful.

In his capacity as chairman of the European Clubs Association (ECA), Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will now petition the UEFA committee for club competitions to consider changing the rules and have yellow cards annulled after the semi-finals, as at the World Cup and European championships. However, any change in the regulations would have to be endorsed by the UEFA Executive Committee and could not be introduced until the 2012/13 competition at the earliest.

Arjen Robben keen on Franz Beckenbauer

Posted by brcic on April 27, 2012

Bayern Dutch winger Arjen Robben is obviously not yet forgiven the legendary Franz Beckenbauer, honorary president of the club because of remarks he made this offer after the big bundesligaškog derby against Borussia Dortmund.
Then Bayern lost in defending the 1-0, but Robben is in the final game failed to score from the penalty, that is, if anything, could extend the hope that the Bavarians will Borussiju off her throne. Bayern defeat in the championship match was virtually decided it.

“If I were coach, would not Robben took the penalty. There is an unwritten rule that a player is wrongful where the maximum penalty is not running. Maybe I am wrong and this rule was changed, or maybe not even arrived to the Netherlands”, sarcastically Beckenbauer commented.

In Wednesday’s second match Robben in the Champions League semi-finals in Madrid against his former club Real Madrid, again claimed responsibility. When his team behind 2-0, scored with white spots, although Iker Casillas hit the side and almost defended his attempt.

From 2-1 to Real Madrid went into overtime, as Bayern won with the same result at home. The decision was eventually dropped from the penalty, where the Bavarians were better, or rather less bad. Dutchman was not shot, but his goal from the white point was crucial for the passage of Bayern Munich in the final.

“I just always happiest with what the story Beckenbauer. I think that sometimes should think first, and then say something,” commented Robben.

Manuel Neuer: “We’ve all worked very hard for this. In both games, we were on a par with them at the very least, and at the end of the day, we deserved to win. I was determined to save those penalties, although obviously luck plays its part. It’s great we have two finals ahead of us.”

Mario Gomez: “It was a dream which has become reality. I’m speechless, I’m overwhelmed. In this atmosphere and in this situation, there’s nothing better than getting through in a penalty shootout.”

Boost for morale, confidence and belief

Posted by brcic on April 23, 2012

The countdown has started: just under 100 hours separated the final whistle in Bremen on Saturday and the biggest match of the season so far, Wednesday evening’s Champions League semi-final return away to Real Madrid. “We’ll travel to Madrid with morale and confidence high, and face this huge challenge,” said Jupp Heynckes following Bayern’s 2–1 victory over Werder.

The victory was achieved despite the looming clash in the Spanish capital, despite extensive squad rotation, and despite the situation in the standings. “As FC Bayern, we have a duty to give everything and show our quality even in a match like this. The team has gone out and done just that. I’m very satisfied with our commitment and attitude. We deserved the win,” commented Heynckes, who agreed he had “thoroughly changed things around” for his team’s 13th match in the space of six weeks.

After game Rummenigge said: We can be proud of the win

Posted by brcic on April 18, 2012

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “It was an emotion-laden match. Real showed just what a good team they are. They played very well at the start, but they were a little shocked by our goal. What they have up front with Benzema, Özil and Cristiano Ronaldo is really first-class. At the end we had the luck on our side and we’ve won 2-1. We can be proud of today’s victory. We’re not without a chance in Madrid.”

Jupp Heynckes: “Overall, it was a deserved victory against a magnificent team. All credit to my lads! We played good football and we worked hard, an outstanding display. Real were good in the first ten to 15 minutes, but we took control after that. Afterwards, we were smart and saw it through to the end. The players have to give everything they have physically in matches like that, and they did so.”

José Mourinho (Real Madrid coach): “There’s no shame in losing a Champions League semi-final, but despite the defeat, we’re in a good position. A draw would have been fair, because we were better in the first half, and also at the start of the second half. I wasn’t as happy with how we played after that.”

Mario Gomez: “It’s always positive when you win in the last minute. You don’t play down having Real as the opposition. Apart from the early minutes of the first and second half, we’ve done very well. We’re angry about conceding a goal. The crowd urged us on. Mourinho has made a team out of a group of individuals at Real, but they didn’t show it tonight, which is to our credit. A 2-1 win is a dangerous result, but we’re always good for a goal with the strength we have up front.”

Semi-final first leg between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid

Posted by brcic on April 17, 2012

No team on earth needs an added incentive to try and win the Champions League. The world’s greatest club competition is the crowning glory of any side’s achievements and the pinnacle in any player’s club career.

Yet these two sides’ desire to win this season in particular is perhaps more intense than any of the other teams to have featured in the tournament.

Bayern will be desperate to lift the trophy in their own stadium, with the majestic Allianz Arena hosting this season’s final, while ever since they won their ninth title a decade ago, Real have been enveloped by a fascination with claiming La Decima “The Tenth”.

A victory tonight for either side would see them take a major step towards the final and 188Bet price a win for Bayern Munich at 3/2 (2.50), while Real Madrid are on offer at the same price 3/2 (2.50). It seems there may be little to chose between the sides and 5/2 (3.50) about the draw with the same firm could prove a wise choice.

The Germans have been in imperious form at their imposing home this season, with 20 wins from their last 22 matches. Real Madrid meantime have been effective rather than spectacular on their travels, particluarly in the Champions League.

Los Blancos have though kept four clean sheets in the five away games they have played in Europe this season, conceding just a solitary goal on the road.

This defensive efficiency has been somewhat lacking in La Liga where Jose Mourinho’s men have managed only two clean sheets in their last eight games.

A low scoring affair then looks probable this evening and the price of 21/20 (2.05) for under 2.5 goals appeals.

On a similar theme, odds of 13/5 (3.60) on 0-1 goals being scored also appeal for a slightly smaller value bet.

On European nights Mourinho’s Madrid come into their element, and will have a well thought out plan to try an nullify Bayern’s attack. Similarly the Germans will be focused on not conceding an away goal and so a low scoring game would suit both sides.

Bayern Mainz

Posted by brcic on April 15, 2012

Three days prior to the Champions League showdown against Real Madrid, visiting Mainz thwarted the home team in a scoreless draw on Saturday, the first time since September 2010 that a match featuring Bayern at the Allianz Arena ended goalless. “We were at a huge disadvantage psychologically,” commented Jupp Heynckes, while Bastian Schweinsteiger rued a string of missed chances: “We should have taken at least one of them.”

Christian Nerlinger: “Regardless of our result, the championship was decided today, so I’m not going to read too much into our result and performance. The players tried hard, but you could see they were hemmed in mentally. Our focus now is on the Champions League and the DFB Cup.”

Jupp Heynckes: “I think this league match against Mainz was always going to be unbelievably difficult to contest. We were at a huge disadvantage psychologically, but we still played intelligent football and we had chances. It’s th kind of match you simply have to win 1-0. Any one who’s ever played football will appreciate what it’s like playing every three or four days. We deserved to have won today.“
