Those doing online betting saw Bayern Munich come up just short of a treble last season, winning the Bundesliga and German Cup before falling to Inter Milan in the Champions League final. This season, Bayern isn’t likely to capture the Bundesliga, but they have a chance to take Borussia Dortmund down when they host the leaders on Saturday. But first, a trip to the San Siro where they would face Inter Milan in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie.
At the San Siro, Bayern received two of the five yellow cards handed out, and Arjen Robben was at the heart of Bayern’s best work as he crossed to Franck Ribery, who hit the bar in the first half, and Robben found the post after an exchange with Ribery in the second half. Finally, Bayern unlocked the hosts in injury time as Robben blasted a shot that was dropped by Inter’s Julio Cesar, and Mario Gomez slotted home to give Bayern a crucial away goal for the second leg at the Allianz Arena on March 15th.
Next up is a visit from Borussia Dortmund, who have a 12-point lead over third-place Bayern in the Bundesliga. Bayern would love to avenge a 2-0 loss at Dortmund on October 3rd, and they were undermanned with Robben and Ribery out of the lineup. Bayern also lost defender Daniel Van Buyten during that match and the man who stepped in for him, Martin Demichelis, had a nightmare of a match as he was directly responsible for both of Dortmund’s second-half goals, which came in a nine-minute span. Look for a full-strength team this time around for Bayern.
