Bundesliga Round 1 Results: Gladbach triumph as Schalke stumble

Stuttgart had only themselves to blame as they crashed to a dissapointing 1-0 defeat to Wolfsburg in Badden Wurttemburg.

After a drab opening hour, both sides had a host of chances, to snatch a late lead. Cacau came closest for the hosts with a couple of chances which Diego Benaglio did well to parry, while at the other end, the returning Diego forced an excellent stop from Sven Ulreich with 82 minutes on the clock.

As the game looked to be approaching a stalemate, Bruno Labbadia’s men were handed a golden opportunity to secure an advantage, though. Vedad Ibisevic produced a decent save from Benaglio, but as he looked to latch onto the loose ball, he was felled by Emmanuel Pogatetz. The 28-year-old took the resulting spot kick himself, but the Swiss stopper saved it easily, before the Bosnian missed an open goal with the rebound.

The miss proved to be costly, and in the last minute of normal time, Bas Dost marked his Bundesliga debut with a headed goal.
