Bundesliga Round 2 Results: Schalke record first win as Bremen enjoy derby day delight

Werder Bremen recovered from their opening day loss to Borussia Dortmund to record a 2-0 victory over local rivals Hamburg.

Nils Petersen came within inches of giving the hosts an early lead when his header bounced off the underside of the bar and the post, before Rene Adler eventually gathered the ball. At the other end, Artjoms Rudnevs almost capitalised on some slack defending, but could only send an effort wide of Sebastian Mielitz’s goal.

Both sides had further half chances to take the lead, but the best fell to the hosts when Eljero Elia was felled in the area by Jeffrey Bruma, but Adler produced a fine stop to deny Aaron Hunt from the spot.

However, they did not live to regret the miss as Dennis Aogo tripped Petersen soon after to give the hosts another penalty, and this time Hunt managed to keep his cool to give his side the lead, and Petersen made the points safe with a slick finish 23 minutes from time.
