Bayern Munich thrashed Stuttgart 6-1 on Sunday to move to the top of the Bundesliga and afterwards Die Roten’s boss Jupp Heynckes was quick to praise the cameo performance of Javi Martinez.
Aside from an astonishing goalscoring display from Bayern, in which Toni Kroos, Mario Mandzukic, Thomas Muller, Luiz Gustavo and Bastian Schewinsteiger scored, FCB fans also got to see €40 million man Martinez make his much-anticipated debut.
The former Los Leones midfielder, who replaced Schweinsteiger for the final 14 minutes of the game, introduced himself to the fans with a fine 40-yard pass to Muller.
“He has already hinted that he can pass. I think this is exactly the player we need.” said Bayern manager Jupp Heynckes to Sport Bild.
Martinez was making his debut on his 24th birthday, and will be looking to feature more heavily in his new team’s next fixture away to Mainz.
