Uli Hoeness has made it clear that the signing of Javi Martinez from Athletic Bilbao for €40 million was an exception rather than the rule for Bayern Munich.
The Spain international became the Bavarians’ record capture following his summer move, and the president believes the holding midfielder will remain the most expensive player to have joined the Bundesliga giants in the coming years.
“The chance that we will make another big-money transfer like the Javi Martinez deal in the next 10 years or so is very slim,” Hoeness stated to 11Freunde.
“I put my complete faith in Jupp Heynckes and Matthias Sammer for that signing. I deliberately opted not to go and watch the player in action.
“However, people should not all of a sudden think that the transfer madness has now reached Bayern Munich as well.”
The 24-year-old has made three official appearances for Bayern so far.
