Second Bayern goal was crucial, says Heynckes after win over Wolfsburg

Jupp Heynckes has praised his Bayern Munich side following their 2-0 Bundesliga victory over Wolfsburg, but admits that the game was tougher than the result suggested.

A Bastian Schweinsteiger strike, along with two headers from Mario Mandzukic were enough to secure all three points for the league leaders, as they maintained their 100 per cent record with a dominant display.

“It wasn’t as easy as the result and the number of chances would suggest,” conceded the Bayern boss after the match.

“We were up for it physically and allowed them very few chances. After we took the lead, we had a number of excellent chances but failed to score a second.

“Despite our dominance, it wasn’t easy against Wolfsburg today, but once we’d gone 2-0 up, you could see it was done and dusted and our opponents recognised they wouldn’t take anything away from here.”

Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri also heaped praise upon his team-mates, as die Roten continued their encouraging start to the season.

“We wanted to carry on where we left off on Saturday.” he added. “It was a very good game from our point of view, and we can be satisfied with the result, although we could have scored more.

“We have real depth in a very good squad, and we’re capable of excellent football. If we’re enjoying ourselves, we’re difficult to beat.”
