Bundesliga Team of the Week: Reus & Gundogan make the cut after Gladbach's thrashing

The Bundesliga is moving into full swing, and after a full programme of fixtures in midweek, we were treated to more great action in Germany over the weekend.

Among the most notable results were Borussia Dortmund’s 5-0 drubbing of Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayern Munich’s 2-0 win over Werder Bremen, and Schalke’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf. And, as ever, Goal.com was casting a watchful eye on all the talent on show.

In goal, it is impossible to look past Rene Adler, whose renaissance at Hamburg continued as Thorsten Fink’s side recorded a 1-0 win over Hannover, with the former Germany international making a string of excellent saves to help his side survive a second-half onslaught.

At the back, Dani Carvajal was in fine form as Bayer Leverkusen continued their ascent up the table, while Georg Niedermeier was a rock for Stuttgart, who finally grabbed their first win of the season away at Nurnberg. Sebastian Langkamp made an excellent block on the line to deny Hoffenheim’s Joselu a goal, and Marcel Schmelzer’s set piece delivery was fantastic as Dortmund cruised past Gladbach.

Further up the field, Ilkay Gundogan grabbed his first goal of the season for the Champions, and the Germany midfielder lies deep in our line-up alongside Andreas Ivanschitz, who set up both goals in Mainz’s win over Wolfsburg.

Franck Ribery looks to be approaching his best form for Bayern Munich, and Sidney Sam rose from the bench to score twice for Leverkusen. Marco Reus was the star of the weekend, though, scoring two magnificent goals against his old club.

Finally, Dani Schahin takes his place as the lone striker after helping Fortuna Dusseldorf recover a two-goal deficit against Schalke on Friday night.
