Another exciting weekend of German games saw Bayern Munich’s lead at the top of the table cut to four points after the Bavarians suffered a surprising 2-1 home loss to Bayer Leverkusen.
Their most realistic challengers at the moment, look to be Schalke, who kept up their excellent form with a 1-0 home win over Nurnberg.
Elsewhere, Stuttgart and Hamburg both continued their good runs with victories over Eintracht Frankfurt and Augsburg, while Borussia Dortmund finally recorded their first away win of the season at Freiburg. Goal.com was there to watch every minute and rate the best talent.
In goal, we have Bernd Leno, who made a string of fine saves to thwart Bayern at the Allianz Arena and continue Leverkusen’s recent run of good form.
In front of him, Simon Kjaer was a rock for Wolfsburg, who marked the departure of coach Felix Magath with a 4-1 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf, while Neven Subotic scored the opening goal for BVB as they won 2-0 at the Mage Solar Stadion. Finally, we have Roel Brouwers, who was also on the score-sheet as Borussia Monchengladbach came from behind to beat Hannover 3-2.
The midfield quartet is comprised of Elkin Soto, who was on song as Mainz cruised past Hoffenheim, Stuttgart’s goal hero Christian Gentner, another Wolfsburg star in Diego, and Juan Arango, the man who sealed Lucien Favre’s side’s win at the AWD Arena.
Up front, Marko Arnautovic was on form despite Werder Bremen’s draw at Greuther Furth, while Jefferson Farfan scored the only goal for Schalke at the Veltins Arena. Finally, we have the star of the weekend, Adam Szalai, who scored a brilliant hat-trick for Mainz.
