Huntelaar: I hope Bayern lose to Hamburg

Klass Jan Huntelaar believes that Schalke have an excellent chance of winning the Bundesliga after their excellent start to the season, and is optimistic that they can catch Bayern Munich.

The Konigsblauen lay just four points adrift of the Bavarians at the top of the table, and the former Real Madrid striker is hoping to close that gap with this weekend’s fixtures.

“Bayern are top, we’re second. If Bayern lose this weekend,  that will be great for us,” the Dutchman told Bild.

However, general manager Horst Heldt believes has refuted suggestions that his side are “Bayern hunters”, and believes that die Roten will be more concerned with other rivals.

What bothers me is the word hunter. I think that Bayern are more concerned with other teams than with Schalke.”

Head coach Huub Stevens has also dismissed the notion of a simmering rivalry, preferring to concentrate on his own team’s matters.

“That’s not my problem. I focus on my tasks in Gelsenkirchen and not in Munich. Things are going well for us. But we’re not where we want to be.”

Schalke face Hoffenheim at the Rhein Neckar Stadion at 15:30CET on Saturday.
