Heynckes proud of Bayern Munich players

Jupp Heynckes believes Bayern Munich were full value for their 4-1 win over BATE Borisov on Wednesday night.

Despite going down to 10 men early in the second-half, the Germans prevailed thanks to strikes from Mario Gomez, Thomas Muller, Xherdan Shaqiri and David Alaba, sealing both a commanding success and top spot in Group E.

“I’m obviously very satisfied because the priority was to win and make sure of first place [in our group],” the coach told reporters.

“The team were very determined and very alert. We conceded almost nothing in defence. Overall, it was an authoritative display.

“All credit to my team because the Champions League is such a difficult competition – the runners-up are all very strong. That means it’s good we’re away from home in the first-leg.”

Gomez broke Bayern’s duck at the Allianz Arena to further his tally to two goals since his comeback from injury five matches ago, and he feels he is regaining his sharpness in the penalty box.
