Manuel Neuer has voiced his delight with Bayern Munich’s 4-1 victory over BATE as they secured top spot in Champions League Group F following Wednesday’s win.
The Bundesliga giants were somewhat surprisingly beaten in the away game against the Belarusians, and Neuer is pleased that the Bavarians got their revenge at the Allianz Arena.
“We’ve deservedly finished top of the group. We’re proud and happy,” Neuer was quoted as saying on the official Bayern website.
“It was a game we had to win, and it was a minor revenge mission because we lost at their place. We wanted to prove we’re the better team, and we’ve done so.
“I’m annoyed about conceding a goal, but otherwise we all but shut them out.”
Meanwhile, Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri has looked ahead to the draw for the round of 16, and made it clear that Bayern do not have any preference as to which team they will face next.
“We’ll have to see who we get in the draw,” he said. “To be honest, it doesn’t really matter because any team that has qualified for the last 16 is a good side, so it’s going to be another step up for us.”
The draw for the first knock-out stage takes place in Nyon on December 20.
