Matthias Sammer says Bayern Munich need to display more presence on the pitch if they are to win silverware this season.
The Bavarians defeated Basel 3-0 in a friendly match on Saturday, but the club’s sporting director believes they must do more than simply churn out results.
“Currently, there are a few things that I don’t like. Things regarding the team’s presence,” the 45-year-old told ZDF.
“It’s only about our own aspirations. If they are average, then that’s okay. But our aspirations are not average.”
“When we solely rely on our results, then that would be the wrong conclusion. We shouldn’t, especially at a phase where we’re equipped with a lot of confidence, disregard paying attention to detail.
“Against Basel, there were a few things noticeable that we can’t afford during league matches.”
Bayern are clear leaders at the top of the Bundesliga, with a nine-point advantage over second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
