Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm has taken the time to praise Pep Guardiola in the wake of the Spaniard’s appointment as the Bavarians new head coach.
The former Barcelona boss will replace Jupp Heynckes once the latter retires at the end of the season, and the 29-year-old feels the club have pulled off quite a coup by luring the 42-year-old to the Allianz Arena.
“Pep Guardiola has been the best coach of the last four or five years. All over the club, and in the dressing room too, you sense huge anticipation,” he told the club’s offical website.
“It’s a top transfer, a best-in-class solution. Respect for what our bosses have done. You’re never guaranteed to bring in a really successful coach like this.
“It shows the club’s good image, the quality in the team, and what our current coach has achieved. He has shaped a team who are contenders in all competitions.”
Meanwhile, Spanish midfielder Javi Martinez is looking forward to working with the former Barcelona coach, too.
“I know lots about him from what my Spain team-mates have told me. They all say very good and positive things.
“His appointment is good news for me, for the whole team, and also for the Bundesliga.”
