Javi Martinez has hailed the arrival of Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich and labelled him “an excellent coach”.
The former Barcelona boss was announced as Jupp Heynckes’ successor earlier this week, with the 41-year-old set to take over the reins of his new club next summer.
Martinez himself made the switch from Spain to Germany during the summer, after impressing for Athletic Bilbao and the midfielder is delighted Guardiola will be joining him at the club.
“Guardiola is an excellent coach. I know him a little from when Bilbao played Barcelona. I rate him highly as a coach and a person,” he told Bild.
“This is the best solution after Heynckes said he wanted to end his career this season. It’s great for Bayern and great for the whole Bundesliga. Now maybe more top players and coaches may come from Spain to Munich and Germany.”
A host of players have already been linked with a move to Bayern as a result of Guardiola’s arrival, but the coach’s father insisted on Saturday that he would not be signing players from the Catalans.
