Robben delighted with Guardiola appointment

Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben is happy that his club have appointed Pep Guardiola as coach for next season, but admitted they are in an unusual situation.

Earlier this month the Bavarian giants confirmed that the former Barcelona boss would take charge of the team in the summer on a three-year deal, with Jupp Heynckes retiring.

“Everyone was very delighted to get a big name in like him,” he told Football Focus.

“It’s also a little bit strange, the situation, because we still have four months to go. We are still in very good form in the league in Germany, and also in the cup and the Champions League.“

However, the Netherlands international also said that they must put Guardiola’s impending arrival to one side and focus on the rest of this season under Heynckes.

“I think it is very important to finish the season well and to concentrate on our game now and with the coach we have now. We need to respect that and not talk too much about the new coach at the moment.”

Bayern Munich are currently nine points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
