Bayern Munich sweating over Schweinsteiger fitness

The influential midfielder could miss Saturday’s league game due to an ankle injury, after missing Germany’s friendly against France on Wednesday

Bayern Munich may have to do without Bastian Schweinsteiger for the clash with Schalke on Saturday after the player suffered an ankle injury.

The Germany international pulled out of the Germany squad for Wednesday’s international friendly against France, and head coach Jupp Heynckes is unsure whether the midfielder will be match fit in time for Saturday’s encounter.

“Bastian’s having real problems with the ankle,” Heynckes was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

“It’s possible there could be a negative reaction in training.”

Schweinsteiger has been a key player for the Bavarians this season, scoring four goals in 19 Bundesliga appearances.
