Robben: I'm not a difficult player

The Dutch winger has found playing time hard to come by in recent weeks, but insists that coaches do not have to work hard to handle him

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has rejected claims that he is a difficult player for a coach to handle.

The Netherlands international has found himself on the fringes of the Roten first team of late, but feels his calls for a regular starting spot are natural.

“They [critics] say I’m difficult, but that’s not true. I want to play, of course otherwise I’m disappointed and may hit the shower quickly from time to time,” the told TZ.

“But we also have to stop talking negatively. We have to focus our attention on the team, not the players who are not playing.”

Bayern took a step towards claiming the Bundesliga with a 4-0 win over Schalke on Saturday, and Robben warned his team-mate not to let up their pursuit of the title.

“We have made a huge step [towards our goal]. It was a beautiful Saturday! Now we can’t let the championship slip away, we have to win the title! But that doesn’t mean we can allow us to become complacent now,” he continued.

“There’s always room for improvement. The most important part is that we maintain our stability. The big games are yet to come, the real test will follow.”
