The midfielder says the Bavarians are desperate to set the record straight after coming up short against BVB in the race for honours in recent seasons
Javi Martinez has revealed Bayern Munich are gunning for revenge in Wednesday’s DFB Pokal quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund.
The Bavarians were beaten 5-2 by their arch-rivals in last year’s final of the German cup, and they are determined to set the record straight at the Allianz Arena this time around.
“I saw highlights of last year’s cup final on TV. This rematch does have a little bit of a revenge feel to it. It’s an additional boost to our motivation,” Martinez was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
“Obviously, the Bundesliga fixture in early December is still fresh in the memory, too. It was a good encounter and very intense. I’m expecting the same in the cup quarter-final, although there’s even more pressure because it’s a knockout match.
“Dortmund are very strong, with top players like [Robert] Lewandowski, [Marco] Reus and [Mario] Gotze, who are incredibly dangerous. But we’re ready.”
Wednesday’s encounter kicks off at 20:30CET.
