The Netherlands international has earned plaudits with his fine display in Wednesday’s cup victory
Mehmet Scholl has labelled Arjen Robben a “phenomenon” following his goalscoring performance in Bayern Munich’s 1-0 DFB-Pokal win over Borussia Dortmund.
The winger netted the only goal of the game to help the Bavarians progress to the semi-finals of the competition, and Scholl was thoroughly impressed with the manner in which Robben responded to his recent struggles.
“The way he scored is simply class. Robben is a phenomenon,” Scholl told ARD.
“If you bear in mind everything that’s happened, all the debates about him being too selfish, his injuries. And then he does this!
“He’s an excellent professional. He could have let his career end silently, but he’s still hungry for more.
“He can make the difference with his individual class. That he takes his actions too far every now and then are part of his game. We have to accept that.”
Robben has netted six goals in 17 official appearances for Bayern so far this term.
