Low confident in Gomez despite limited starts

The coach of the German national team still has faith in the talents of Bayern’s towering forward despite his chances for the Bavarians being limited this season

Joachim Low has spoken of his confidence in Bayern Munich’s German forward Mario Gomez, despite the former Stuttgart man’s lack of first team opportunities for the Bavarian outfit so far this season.

Whilst Gomez may start against Hoffenheim in die Roten‘s upcoming DFB-Pokal clash, he is still the second striker in the pecking order following the summer arrival of the in-form Mario Mandzukic.

However, despite the torrid season that Gomez is enduring at club level, his national coach still believes in his talents.

Mario is intelligent and knows that the coach just cannot not pick Mandzukic [in his current form]”, Low told a recent press conference.

“He knows he has always scored me goals in recent years,” the 53-year-old continued.

“If Mario is fit, he can compete with any striker in the world. If he is in shape and plays, he is a guarantee of goals.”
