Bundesliga Team of the Week: Sahin returns after two-year absence

Three Borussia Dortmund players feature in Goal.com’s round-up of Germany’s star performers this weekend after their 5-1 win over Freiburg

The 26th round of Bundesliga fixtures saw Borussia Dortmund’s prodigal son, Nuri Sahin, put in his finest performance since his return in January, and the Turkey international takes up a deserved place in Goal.com‘s Team of the Week for the first time since February 2011.

In goal, we have Mohamed Amsif a solid presence between the sticks for Augsburg as the Bavarians gave their hopes of survival a real boost thanks to a 1-0 win over Europe-chasing Hamburg.

He is joined by team-mate Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker, who scored the winner for the minnows at the Imtech Arena, Martin Latka, an absolute rock for Dusseldorf at Wolfsburg, while Timm Klose played a key role in frustrating Schalke as Nurnberg claimed a 3-0 win over Jens Keller’s side.

Two midfielders netted doubles for their side. Aaron Hunt converted two penalties for Werder Bremen, who snatched a point against Greuther Furth, and Sahin was the hero for Dortmund, who came from behind to beat Freiburg 5-1. His young colleague Mario Gotze also makes the cut, while Bastian Schweinsteiger performed admirably in an unfamiliar No.10 role for Bayern at Leverkusen.

Robert Lewandowski becomes the third Dortmund player to feature following a double of his own, and is joined up front by Alexander Esswein, who helped to tear apart S04 and Stefan Kiessling, whose brave efforts against Bayern for Leverkusen were ultimately in vain.
