Benat's agent denies contact between Betis & Bayern

The ex-Athletic Bilbao starlet has been linked with a move to Pep Guardiola’s Bavarians in the summer, but Jose Vicente Biurrun said that the player could stay through next season

Bayern Munich have not made contact with Betis about a summer transfer for star player Benat, according to the midfielder’s agent.

The 26-year-old, who has picked up four caps for Spain since his debut last May, was linked with Manchester City earlier in the campaign thanks to consistently good performances in La Liga.

Bayern revealed in January that former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola would take over in the summer as head coach, but Benat’s agent Jose Vicente Biurrun insists his client is not on the verge of joining the Bavarian giants.

“I only know what I have read in the press,” he told Estadio Deportivo. “Neither the club nor the player have been contacted by Bayern.”

Benat has a contract that runs until June 2014, leading many to question whether more financially-equipped clubs could swoop in the summer, but Biurrun tried to extinguish such suggestions.

“There has been no change in recent months and I do not know if there will be any,” the midfielder’s representative added. “I’m no fortune teller, but anything could happen.

“Betis do not have to convince Benat to stay because he has another year left on his contract.”

Benat came through the youth system at Athletic Bilbao but failed to shine at first and has had to make a name for himself at a variety of Basque-based clubs up until this point in his career.
