With Javi Martinez suspended for the clash with Juventus, the Bayern boss will experiment with the Brazilian alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger in midfield on Saturday
Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes says he will play Luiz Gustavo alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger in Saturday’s clash with Hamburg, in preparation for their Champions League clash with Juventus on Tuesday.
With Javi Martinez suspended for the game with the Turin giants, the 67-year-old is keen to test the Brazilian’s effectiveness at the heart of midfield, as they prepare to combat the trio of Andrea Piro, Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio.
“I think I will play Luiz Gustavo alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger, although M’m yet to discuss this decision with Luiz and Javi,” Heynckes told reporters at a press conference.
Heynckes also revealed he is wary of featuring Franck Ribery, after the France star suffered a toe injury in training on Thursday.
“If he doesn’t feel any pain, then he plays. Yesterday, he did not take part in training, but did use the ergometer bicycle,” he continued.
Bayern know that victory over Hamburg and a defeat for Borussia Dortmund against Stuttgart would secure the Bundesliga title for the 23rd time in their history.
Meanwhile, the Bavarians face Juventus at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
