Javi Martinez: Juventus not like other Italian teams

The Bayern Munich midfielder has hailed the Italian champions’ positive approach, and is looking forward to locking horns with Andrea Pirlo

Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez has voiced his respect for Juventus and believes the Bianconeri are unlike any other Serie A side.

The Italian champions were beaten 2-0 by the Bavarians in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday, but the Spaniard was impressed with the Old Lady’s positive approach.

“Juventus have shown that they are not a typical Italian team. They do not just limit themselves to defending and play some good football from the back,” the former Athletic Bilbao man told Abendzeitung.

“But we emerged victorious because we had the better tactical plans.”

The Spaniard missed the first leg due to suspension, but is eagerly anticipating the return as he wants to measure himself against Andrea Pirlo.

“I am really looking forward to taking on Pirlo. I have been closely following his career for a number of years and he is an incredible player. I always try to learn things from him.”

The second leg of the quarter-final tie between Juventus and Bayern in Turin takes place on April 10.
