The FCB supremo was not entirely pleased with his side’s performance in the opening 60 minutes, but was impressed with the Swiss attacker’s display
Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has taken the time to praise Xherdan Shaqiri in the wake of the Bavarians’ 6-1 DFB Pokal semi-final win over Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening.
The Switzerland international, who filled in for the suspended Franck Ribery, put in a man of the match performance to help Bayern to the final as he was involved in four of his side’s six goals and his impressive display has not gone unnoticed.
“We’re very satisfied. Shaqiri is the man of the match, he was world class today,” Sammer was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
The former Germany international was not entirely satisfied with Bayern’s performance early on in the game, though, as he felt the midfield did not offer Daniel Van Buyten enough support in defence.
“However, in the first half and for part of the second half, Van Buyten was very often abandoned. He wasn’t offered enough support from midfield,” he added.
“But the coach used some choice words at half-time, and also made the right substitutions. For the first hour, we had plenty of problems when we didn’t have the ball.”
Bayern will meet either Stuttgart or Freiburg in the DFB-Pokal final.
