Messi in Barcelona squad for Bayern Munich

The Argentine has not featured for the Catalan giants since making his return from a hamstring strain in the 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain on April 10

Lionel Messi has been included in the Barcelona squad for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final showdown with Bayern Munich – even though he has not yet been given the green light by club doctors to play at the Allianz Arena.

The Argentine made his return from a hamstring strain in the Blaugrana‘s 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain on April 10, but he was not risked in the subsequent Liga clashes with Zaragoza and Levante.

However, Barca have now confirmed that their talismanic forward is in contention for a recall against die Roten.

“Leo Messi took a full part in training on Sunday morning and although he has not yet been declared match fit by club doctors, he has been included in the squad to face Bayern in Munich,” a statement on the Catalans’ official website read.

The Liga leaders also revealed that Javier Mascherano and Carles Puyol will both miss the Bavaria through injury, but that reserve team goalkeeper Oier has been included in the travelling party.
