Franz Beckenbauer believes Jupp Heyckes should retire from coaching when he leaves Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
The 67-year-old has been linked with moves to the likes of Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao when he makes way for Pep Guardiola in the summer but the German icon feels his old international team-mate has earned a break.
“He should take it slower and doesn’t need the daily dirty business. I can’t advise him to stay in coaching,” he told Sky.
“There can’t be an increase [in success if he leaves], and besides, he’s quickly approaching 70.”
Heynckes himself dismissed reports after the match that Real Madrid have been in contact with him, hinting that he may consider taking a hiatus from the game.
