JD's Betting Blog: Victory for Bayern Munich and Manchester United this weekend

JD looks at this weekend’s fixtures across Europe and thinks that the Premier League and Bundesliga winners are worthy of support

It was a huge week in the Champions League semi finals with both German sides booking their place in the final at Wembley.

Borussia Dortmund survived a late scare in Madrid to win 4-3 on aggregate. Bayern Munich demolished Barcelona 7-0 over two legs and Paddy Power go just 4/9 (1.44) that the Bavarians will be crowned champions at Wembley in a couple of weeks. Borussia Dortmund will be dangerous opponents though and they can be backed at 7/4 (2.75) with Paddy Power to lift the cup.

Beware of an end of season mentality in Italy and Spain

The mentality and approach of teams in certain leagues can be different at this time of season. You will find that teams who have nothing to play for can often under-perform and ‘take it easy’ against opponents who are still fighting for clear objectives.

To a certain extent, early-season form is not that important and motivation should be more of a deciding factor in your betting strategy at this stage of season.

You will notice some strange pricing policies by the bookmakers, particularly in Italy. For example, the draw between Chievo and Cagliari this weekend is priced up at 23/20 (2.15) with Paddy Power. Between Parma and Atalanta, the draw is even shorter at evens (2.0). Layers are clearly expecting these sides to play out a mutually beneficial draw.

This weekend’s tips

Looking ahead to the weekend, the two German giants meet in a league match on Saturday. Expect both sides to make changes after their midweek exertions and following celebrations.

Amazingly, Bayern Munich have only conceded three goals away from home all season in the league. They are 11/8 (2.38) to win this contest and they are worthy of support at that price.

In England, Manchester United wont be lacking in motivation to overcome a Chelsea side who are nearing the end of their busiest season in history. The Premier League winners are 6/5 (2.20) to record a win and their excellent record at home  against all grades of teams makes them decent value.
