Martinez cherishes Barcelona battering

The midfielder was full of praise for his sides performance in the Champions League semi-final by beating the Blaugrana 7-0 on aggregate

Javi Martinez is delighted with how Bayern Munich thrased Barcelona to reach their third Champions League final in four years.

Bayern cruised to a 3-0 victory on Wednesday, with goals from Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller and an own goal from Barca’s Gerard Pique, giving them a 7-0 victory in the last-four tie.

“We came into this semi-final during a great moment of form,” the former Athletic Bilbao midfielder, who swapped La Liga for the Bundesliga at the start of the season, told Canal +.

“We performed very well and we learned to play them in both Barcelona and in the first leg, on the break, playing very fast, with players like [Franck] Ribery, Robben and Muller.”

Martinez also admitted he was surprised that Lionel Messi did not play any part in proceedings on Wednesday evening, with Blaugrana boss claiming that his absence was not injury-related.

“We did not expect him not to play, but they still have an amazing squad and any player can do really well,” he added.

“I’ve seen the Bilbao match [against Athletic on Saturday] and he just changed the game, but still, Barcelona have a great template and any of their players could have posed problems.

The 24-year-old starlet believes this result only adds to the renaissance which the sport is currently enjoying in his current club’s nation and proclaimed the Bundesliga as among the best in the world.

“German football is doing very well. The stadiums are always full, every game in the Allianz Arena has sold out,” Martinez continued.

“Who knows what league is best, but the Bundesliga is definitely in the top three.”
