The former Germany international has voiced his delight with the up-coming clash between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, and downplayed his touchline spat with Jurgen Klopp
Matthias Sammer has hailed the “extraordinary achievement” of seeing an all-German Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund this season.
Bayern recorded a 7-0 aggregate win over Barcelona in the semi-finals of European club football’s elite competition, while BVB saw off Real Madrid 4-3 over two legs to book their ticket for the showpiece at Wembley.
“I’m still finding it an extraordinary achievement to have two German teams in the final,” Bayern’s sporting director was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
“The countdown has been underway for a while. There’s lots of talk, although there’s not really much to talk about. Despite it all, it’ll be decided on the field of play. I guess the verbal sparring beforehand is all part of it.”
Sammer then briefly reflected on his altercation with BVB coach Jurgen Klopp in this weekend’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw and insisted that there is no a problem between the duo.
“The thing with Jurgen was harmless. It was the incident associated with the second yellow card and sending-off. Rafinha came off the field, Jurgen Klopp exchanged words with Rafinha, and I advised him he shouldn’t talk to our players. That’s all.
“We had to leave the ground almost immediately after the match, but Jurgen Klopp let it be known everything was fine. The emotional temperature was high, but what was said was fine.”
