Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has lavished praise on the outgoing coach while insisting the club have learned from recent Champions League final losses
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has described head coach Jupp Heynckes as “the real Special One” ahead of his departure in the summer.
The Bavarians have had a season to cherish so far – a Bundesliga title in the bag with records broken left, right and centre and two cup finals to come later in May, with an unprecedented treble potentially on the cards.
Rummenigge showered the trainer in praise for playing his part this campaign and borrowed the phrase Jose Mourinho famously coined upon arriving at Chelsea years ago to describe the veteran coach.
“We have a solid character and have been disciplined and the credit goes to Heynckes who has found just the right formula,” he wrote in the club’s magazine.
“I know that another coach has the title but, for us, Heynckes is the real ‘Special One’.”
The former West Germany international also insisted the club have taken positives from their European final failures in 2010 against Inter and last season against Chelsea with an all-German showdown set to take place on May 25 against Borussia Dortmund.
“We have learned our lesson from 2010 and 2012,” Rummenigge added. “Because of this, we will win the Champions League.”
Pep Guardiola will be taking over the reins at the Allianz Arena in June but how successful a side he will inherit depends on whether die Roten can triumph over Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal and Dortmund at Wembley in the Champions League final.
