Blanc: Bayern are like a steamroller

The former France coach believes the Bavarian club hold the edge on their Bundesliga rivals but feels the Champions League final is finely poised

Laurent Blanc believes Bayern Munich are favourites in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, and admits he is in awe of the way they have “crushed” opponents this season.

The German clubs knocked out the two Spanish giants of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the semi-finals, with Bayern recording a thumping 7-0 aggregate win over Tito Vilanova’s side, and Blanc believes the FCB “steamroller” will take some stopping on Saturday.

“Bayern are favourites because since the beginning of the tournament they have really crushed their opponents,” the 47-year-old told RMC Sport.

“Dortmund, they can beat anyone. What makes me happy is that they are two teams and two coaches who advocate that the game.

“Since the beginning of the competition, we have taken great pleasure to see these two teams get to the final, because they are two teams openly playing and not closing down the game. Dortmund are able to undermine anyone, including Bayern Munich, but Bayern really are like a steamroller.”

The Champions League final kicks off at 20:45 CET at Wembley on May 25.
