The Brazil internationals insist competing for their country must take priority despite a scheduling conflict ensuring they will miss a potentially-historic match for Bayern
Luiz Gustavo and Dante have revealed that they are happy to miss Bayern Munich’s DFB Pokal final against Stuttgart in order to prepare for the Confederations Cup with Brazil. After discussions between the Brazilian FA and the DFB the Roten players were instructed to join up with the Selecao prior to the friendly clash with England on Sunday.Although they face the prospect of missing out on securing an historic treble with Bayern this weekend, the duo insists they have no problem putting international duty ahead of domestic commitments.
“We are happy for us to fulfil a dream and play in a tournament for the Selecao. There is no grief over the missed DFB Cup final,” Luiz Gustavo told Kicker.
“They have not exactly checked the calendar.”
“We have made it clear that playing for the Selecao has a different value for us. It is a dream which we fight for from a young age,” added Dante.
Former Bayern Munich striker Giovane Elber had earlier blasted the decision of the Brazilian FA, insisting there was no justification in forcing the Bayern pair to miss a showpiece final in Germany.
“I just thought it was an April fool. The behavior of the Brazilian Association is inhuman,” the 40-year-old told Sky Sports.
“This is not just any game, it’s a final, it would have been possible for both to contest the final game of the season and then happily to fly to Brazil on Sunday!”
Brazil are preparing for two friendlies against England on June 2 and France on June 9 ahead of the Confederations Cup on June 15.
