The Germany international has nothing but praise for the outgoing Bayern Munich boss and feels winning the treble was a fitting farewell
Jerome Boateng has taken the time to praise Jupp Heynckes in the wake of Bayern Munich’s successful 2012-13 campaign and has made it clear that the experienced coach has played a key role in his career.
Die Roten beat Stuttgart 3-2 in Saturday’s DFB-Pokal final to clinch a historical treble after previously securing the Bundesliga title and the Champions League, and Boateng was very satisfied that the Bavarians were able to give Heynckes a fitting sending-off.
“It was a very moving and emotional farewell. I am very pleased for him that he got a sending-off like this. He fully deserves it,” Boateng was quoted as saying by Kicker.
“Jupp is like a father to me. He’s also the one who brought me to Bayern and I owe a lot to him. He has played a big role in my career so far.”
Heynckes will make way for Pep Guardiola this summer after a two-year spell with the Allianz Arena side.
It is unknown as of yet whether the 68-year-old will retire or continue his coaching career elsewhere. Heynckes is expected to reveal his plans for the future at a press conference on Tuesday.
