The Borussia Monchengladbach legend believes both clubs are too different to try and replicate the Blaugrana’s style of play at the Allianz Arena
Former West Germany international Gunter Netzer does not expect Pep Guardiola to try and turn Bayern Munich into another Barcelona as both sides are too different in his opinion.
Guardiola enjoyed huge success at Barcelona during his four-year spell at the Catalans, but Netzer feels it will be hard to replicate the Blaugrana style of play at the reigning European champions.
“I don’t believe Guardiola intends to try and establish another team in the mould of Barcelona,” Netzer was quoted as saying on the official Bundesliga website.
“In terms of their footballing character, this Bayern are too different to Barcelona and he’ll be coaching players in things they haven’t learned before. So in that respect I think he can extract a little more from them and they’ll benefit a lot from working under him.
“He’ll have a very good squad of players to pick from at Bayern and will certainly have his own ideas about how he wants the team to play. But I also think that the multitude of characters he has at his disposal will give him a lot of opportunity to develop the team and try new things.
“Being able to change things around is the best luxury a coach can have. Then we’ll find out what sot of impact that has on Bayern’s line-up, tactics and system.”
Guardiola will begin his tenure as Bayern Munich’s head coach on June 26.
