Valenti Guardiola believes his son’s obsession with the game will only be a positive for Bayern Munich in the coming seasons
Pep Guardiola has football “in his blood” and his obession with the game will only help Bayern Munich improve, according to his father.
The former Barcelona boss officially took charge of the European champions on Monday, and Valenti Guardiola believes his son will relish the challenge of stepping into Jupp Heynckes’ shoes at the Allianz Arena.
“Pep has always lived for football,” he told Sport.
“For him, football is on his mind 24 hours a day, whether it’s thinking about it or talking about it. It’s in his blood.
“It’s a big responsibility coaching Bayern, but I am not worried because I know that Pep will give everything at the club.
“What I would like most is for him to have the same success he had at Barca, or repeat that which Bayern have had now. People have to fight to reach the top. Football relies on the ball, it’s not mathematical, like chess.”
Guardiola’s brother revealed earlier this month how the Spaniard had been learning German “like a madman” during his sabbatical year in America, and his father has echoed his admiration for Pep’s efforts while away from the game.
“In New York he was like a professor learning German,” he added.
“When he strives to achieve something he always succeeds.”
