The 22-year-old sustained torn ligaments in the 2-0 victory over Nurnberg on Saturday, and the German giants have since confirmed the star will miss nearly two months
Bayern Munich have announced that Thiago Alcantara has suffered a ligament tear and will be out of action for seven weeks.
The former Barcelona starlet was forced off in the 62nd minute of the Bavarians’ 2-0 victory over Nurnberg on Saturday and the Bavarians have now revealed that the midfielder requires an operation.
“Thiago picked up the injury during the second half of the game,” a statement on the club’s official website read.
“He will undergo surgery in Munich on Monday and is expected to be out for seven weeks.”
The 22-year-old Spain international is now set to miss the Bundesliga clashes with Freiburg, Hannover, Schalke and Wolfsburg, in addition to several group stage fixtures in the Champions League.
Thiago only arrived at the Allianz Arena in July, after deciding to link up once again with former Blaugrana coach Pep Guardiola despite reported interest from Manchester United.
