A decision will be made on Tuesday about whether the Spain international will have to go under the knife to remedy a persisting groin injury
Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has received some disappointing news on the injury front as he could be without the services of Javi Martinez who may have to undergo groin surgery.
The Spain international has been pestered by groin problems for a number of weeks now and Bayern’s medical staff have advised an operation to remedy the issue.
“I don’t have any problems when I play 20 to 30 minutes, but that’s when it’s getting painful again,” the 25-year-old said after his side’s Uefa Super Cup win over Chelsea last week.
A final decision on whether Martinez will undergo surgery will be made on Tuesday, with the holding midfielder facing two to three weeks on the sidelines if he opts to go under the knife.
Bayern have been tormented by injury in midfield in recent months as Thiago Alcantara and Bastian Schweinsteiger are both unavailable.
