The Bayern Munich skipper has reached the milestone at the Allianz Arena as his national team host Austria on Friday
Germany skipper Philipp Lahm has been handed his 100th international cap for his side’s World Cup qualification clash with Austria.
The 29-year-old made his first appearance for his country back in 2004 and has been a stalwart ever since, appearing at two World Cups and three European Championships.
Lahm, who also skippers Bayern Munich, was first handed the Mannschaft captaincy just prior to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa when Michael Ballack was injured.
During his nine years as a Germany player Lahm has scored five goals, most notably in his side’s first game at the 2006 World Cup on home soil.
Lahm joins current team-mates Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski on triple figures and is the eighth player to have played for Germany (or West Germany) to reach the milestone.
Lothar Mattheus, whose international career spanned a full 20 years, remains the most capped German ever, winning 150 between 1980 and 2000.
