The former Borussia Dortmund star is desperate for regular first-team football after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury
Bayern Munich attacker Mario Gotze has stressed that he needs game time in order to hit his best form again.
The 21-year-old playmaker has been plagued by injury ever since his transfer from Borussia Dortmund during the summer, but he is raring to go again after recently resuming squad training.
“Obviously, I’m not back to 100 per cent yet. But it’s only a matter of time. I need playing time and I need matches,” Gotze told the official Bayern website.
“I think I’ll get both these things over the next few weeks. The rest will just follow automatically.”
The forward played 45 minutes in Germany’s 5-3 win over Sweden on Tuesday and he was delighted to get a run-out with the national side.
“It was important to me after such a long time away,” he enthused. “I’ve not been able to play regularly for the last five months, so it’s just been good to get back out onto the pitch.“
Gotze has made just three Bundesliga appearances so far this term and has yet to find the net for Bayern in an official game.
