Jerome Boateng paid tribute to former boss Jupp Heynckes as Bayern Munich made Bundesliga history with a 3-0 win over Augsburg on Saturday.
The Germany international scored the opening goal of the before Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller sealed maximum points as the champions made it a record 37 games without defeat in the top flight.
While Boateng was thrilled to be on the scoresheet, he was quick to praise the entire team for their remarkable run, which begun under Jupp Heynckes last season.
“I am thrilled about the goal and that we have broken the record. Congratulations to all at FC Bayern, and to Jupp Heynckes from last season. It was a great game from the whole team. We can be happy,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.
Augsburg boss Mark Weinzierl admitted his side’s gameplan was ruined by Boateng’s early goal and praised the Bavarians for their “incredible” style of play.
“Bayern are incredibly strong, we experienced this today, with the presence and security on the ball they have. It’s incredible,” he said.
“The early deficit confused our plans a little. We could have done better overall.”
