Ribery: Dortmund victory will be vital

The Frenchman is aware of the importance of claiming all three points in their November 23 clash with their great rivals at Signal Iduna Park

Bayern Munich attacker Franck Ribery claims that victory in their next outing against Borussia Dortmund will put them well on track to claim a second successive Bundesliga title.

Goals from Jerome Boateng, Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller helped the Bavarians claim a 3-0 win against Augsburg on Saturday, thus extending their current unbeaten streak in the league to 37 games, breaking a 30-year-old record in the process.

The Ballon d’Or nominee was delighted at having netted at the Allianz Arena but he wasted little time in turning his attention to Bayern’s November 23 showdown with rivals Dortmund.

“The second goal was important for myself and the team. We did well, were very aggressive and played better than last time out,” Ribery told bundesliga.com.

“The next game against Borussia Dortmund is vital for us. It’s a great chance to build a lead at the top and extend our record.”

Coach Pep Guardiola, however, warned of the dangers of complacency and called for greater consistency from his troops.

“We started well [against Augsburg], and the early goal made it easier,” the former Barcelona boss told the club’s official website. “But we didn’t play so well after that.

“It was better in the second half, we controlled the game and created a number of big chances.

“Now I hope my players come back fit after the international break.”
