Kroos baffled by Mourinho claims

The Bayern Munich midfielder rejects the Portuguese coach’s assertions that Chelsea were the better team in Friday’s Uefa Super Cup encounter even after Ramires’ dismissal

Toni Kroos has taken a swipe at Jose Mourinho, rubbishing the Chelsea boss’ assessment of his side’s loss to Bayern Munich in the Uefa Super Cup final.

Mourinho insisted that the Blues were superior throughout – even after Ramires received a second yellow card in the 85th minute – and complained that his sides have all too regularly received red cards when playing against teams under Pep Guardiola’s stewardship.

Speaking to Bild, Kroos dismissed the former Real Madrid coach’s verdict that “the better team lost,” suggesting that the 50-year-old was in a minority of one concerning his views.

“He exclusively has this opinion. I’m not sure if he’s being serious,” the Germany midfielder said.

“Even with 11 players, Chelsea were far worse than us.”

Die Roten sealed their first Super Cup with a 5-4 win on penalties in Prague on Friday evening, after Javi Martinez had levelled the tie at 2-2 with the last kick of the game in extra time.

The Uefa Super Cup represents the first piece of silverware for Guardiola in his opening months in Bavaria as he looks to emulate the club’s Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal successes of last season.
