Robben: Bayern their own biggest enemy

The Netherlands international believes the Bavarians can only throw away the Bundesliga title having gone 10 points clear at the top

Arjen Robben believes the Bundesliga title is Bayern Munich’s to lose after they went 10 points clear at the top of the table following this weekend’s results.

The Bavarians beat Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday courtesy of Mario Gotze and Thomas Muller goals, before second-placed Bayer Leverkusen suffered defeat to Freiburg, leaving a sizeable gap at the summit of Germany’s top flight.
And Robben has stressed Bayern now have everything in their own hands.

“I think that we are our own biggest enemy in the title race,” Robben told Goal.

“We hold a comfortable lead and it’s up to us to maintain this lead. We are very pleased with the current situation.

“The win over Monchengladbach was very important. They had won eight home games and drawn the other two before Friday.”

Robben returned to match action in Friday’s encounter after a seven-week spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury, but the Dutchman has admitted that he is not at 100 per cent just yet.

“It’s been seven weeks now since I picked up the injury and I can only be happy. It was a serious injury, yet I’m already quite far in my recovery,” he continued.

“Things went really smooth before the winter break until I met that Augsburg goalkeeper [Marwin Hitz]…

“I need training action and games to find my rhythm again, because I am not 100 per cent fit yet. I featured against Gladbach because we have a number of injuries and had a lot of youngsters on the bench.”

Robben will be hoping for more playing time on Wednesday when Bayern take on Stuttgart.
