The Roten chief believes that instead of concentrating on the lack of competition offered by German football, his team’s success should be celebrated
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he will make no apologies for the German champions’ domestic dominance.
Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in the Bundesliga this season, having won 20 of their 22 league games, and sit 19 points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
Die Roten lost just one league game last season and won the division by 25 points, also lifting the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League.
And while their achievements have led to some suggesting the lack of competition is having a detrimental effect on German football as a whole, Rummenigge believes his side should be celebrated.
“I don’t remember anyone in Sochi [at the Winter Olympics] demanding that the dominant German luge competitors should go slower that so that the opposition could keep up,” he told Bayern’s official magazine.
“Bayern Munich will neither excuse nor apologise our fine work.
“It should be remembered that this is a sporting competition, which is about achieving the best conditions and putting on the best performances and imposing yourself on the opponent, whether it be at the Winter Olympics or the Bundesliga.”
Bayern will be aiming to continue their 100 per cent record in 2014 on Saturday when they host Schalke.
