The national team coach has urged his pupil to keep on fighting and is confident he will eventually break into the first team
Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has advised Xherdan Shaqiri to be patient and stay at Bayern Munich to fight for his place rather than try and force a move elsewhere.
The winger’s agent – and brother – Erdin recently suggested that Shaqiri would be open to a summer move if a club like Inter, Manchester United or Liverpool would make a move for the 22-year-old, thus fuelling speculation about his future.
However, Shaqiri himself was quick to insist his brother was misquoted and that he is happy to stay at Bayern – and Hitzfeld has now urged him to resist a transfer, too.
“I am always in favour of fulfilling your contract and fighting for your place,” Hitzfeld told TZ.
“Xherdan currently plays for the best club in the world and has the ability to secure regular first team action.
“He should remain patient.”
Shaqiri, who has a contract with Bayern until 2016, has netted five goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances so far this term.
